Chronic constipation: A bowel regimen may help. The goal is two soft bowel movements daily. Water and juices up to 1.5 liters daily, fiber tablets, laxatives (milk of magnesium or miralax), stool softeners, probiotics, and walking are all non-prescription things you can use for your bowel regimen. If you have fever or vomiting, or if your symptoms persist with your bowels regulated, then get evaluated.

Likely unrelated: Long term complications of umbilical hernia repair are recurrence and bowel obstruction. Neither one seems to be present.
