Infected tooth: Once the tooth is removed, the infection will heal because removing the tooth has removed the cause of the infection. The time it takes to heal usually depends on the severity of the infection. Healing normally occurs in 7-10 days.

Depends: It takes antibiotics 12 to 24 hrs to get into your system. Depending on the degree of infection and the resistance of the bacteria it can be within 24 hrs or much longer. If you haven't noticed much change in 48 hours you should see your dentist. The tooth was the source of the infection so you should see improvement very soon.
