CD4 count: As in your other question, CD4 testing is not a substitute for HIV testing and there is no need in someone with negatieve HIV blood test. In people with HIV, the two determinants of progression to overt AIDS are CD4 count and viral load, i.e. the amount of HIV in the blood. People with AIDS always have severely depressed CD4 levels. But don't get tested if HIV test is negative.
