Doc stated my lab results show slightly decreased cd4 t-cells, making me predisposed to infections. hiv negative, other labs ok. what causes this?

Check again: If the tests were done because you were suspected to have an impaired immune system, then one would have to look for the cause . If this is just an incidental finding and you are healthy otherwise, I would get the test repeated in about a month to see if this is a persistent problem.
