Rpe: Retinal pigment epithelium is the pigmented layer of the retina. It can be thickened in the very young and is considered congenital. It also can occur in adults. In the periphery of the retina it is asymptomatic and usually found on a routine eye exam.It is usually perfectly benign and causes no problems.
