A member asked:

I just went to the eye doctor and had my pupils dilated. i walked home afterwards and was in direct sunlight for maybe 15 minutes. does this cause retinal damage? i'm scared and the answers online are vague. i know i "should have" worn sunglasses.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unlikely: Such a trip was likely uncomfortable but not damaging in the long term. Unless you looked directly at the sun for a time any alteration you sense in your vision should be transient. You likely pursed your eyes somewhat closed because of the glare, which does most of the work of the sunglasses.
