Pica: Such craving is called pica (pronounced pie-kah). Pica is often associated with iron deficiency -- both a possible cause and an effect of low iron. A low meat diet may not be right for you: as long as pica continues, you'll need a high iron diet. There is plenty of iron in certain green vegetables, but it may be hard to get enough without substantial meat intake. Discuss with doctor.
