A member asked:

Two employees have recently been diagnosed with scabies, what preventative measures can we advise staff to take? should we have carpets, chairs cleaned and office fumigated?

Nothing particular: This is spread by close personal contact. The personnel should seek treatment. As long as you are not wrestling or sleeping with them there is no particular risk to people nearby. This is not like strep or staph.

Depends on worries: Cleaning everything sounds fine. Not sure about fumigation. To feel safer after the team has had scabies or head lice, one can vacuum everywhere (especially upholstery), wash the washables (sheets, clothes) and dry them with the hot setting if the fabric allows it. Work or live mainly in one "safe room" that's super clean, and wait 10 days before working or living in the rest of the place.
