About strep throat..: Strep throat is a bacterial infection. Mono from EBV is a viral infection. A patient can have one with the other, have one without the other, or have neither illness (they are not related, but they do cause some similar symptoms). Strep throat is not a sign of mono. Likewise, mono is not a sign of strep throat. In general, strep throat is much more common than mono.
