A member asked:

Hi i have extracted a wisdom tooth 5 days ago and the wound is closing up but it is still painful. is this normal? i'm a bit concerned that i might have an infection as i don't think i should still be experiencing pains.

Though I am not: in the dental field your query can still be addressed based on your description. You say that the wound is closing up yet it i still painful. Pain is subjective and cannot be proven or dis-proven but is taken at face value. The fact that the wound is closing speaks against infection which would be swollen with more drainage, likely a bad taste and pain. I let you decide from here.

Surgery: By the second day post-wisdom tooth surgery the healing process should allow you to feel a bit better every day. Know that the more complex the surgery, the longer it will take to heal. In the absence of swelling, nasty tasting drainage, or bleeding, you should be improving. If not, and you are concerned by your level of pain, please contact the Dentist or specialist Oral Surgeon that treated you.
