A member asked:

75 male with paroxysmal af on amiodaron 100mg but still have frequent episodes which are mildly symptomatic, is ablation a must or try dronedarone?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Try a higher dosage: Amiodarone is about 60-80% effective in suppressing PAF, but you are on a very low dosage. We try to minimize the risk of side effects by keeping the dosage as low as possible, but not so low as to be ineffective. Cryoablation is about 90% effective for PAF, but is invasive, expensive, and not risk-free. If you have never had side effects from amiodarone before, you can try 400 mg/ x 2 weeks, then
