Amiodarone is more effective than dronedarone in converting atrial fibrillation but dronedarone has less side effects on thyroid and pulmonary function. Both should be used as the maintenance of normal sinus rhythm after atrial fib has been converted but they should not be prescribed exclusively as a rate control medication given the availability of other agents for this purpose. Good luck to you.
