A member asked:

48 hr urine culture reports no uti but normal bacteria overgrowth. does this mean i have bv? staying on macrobid for 2 more days & probiotic.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: When there is "normal bacteria" it implies that the collection method was poor. A squat & pee collection, rather than one catheterized or truly clean midstream catch will have some vaginal wash out germs, but these are expected with any such specimen. BV is a clinical diagnosis based on symptoms and a wet prep of vaginal secretions examined under a microscope.
