Should self heal: By definition they traumatized the vein by cutting into it with the needle. Sometimes a little of the medicine that flows through the IV leaks through that initial hole. Your body eventually heals/repairs the hole and the process can lead to a transient lump. You have nerves that surround the vein so it can hurt during the healing. It should pass within 6 wks.
