Difficult Diagnosis: Probably one of the more common diagnoses for the situation you described is a ganglion cyst. Often these are painless, firm masses that seem to appear someday. They may change in size over time. The best way to cure them is surgical removal. If they aren't bothering you, it's usually not a problem to not operate on them.

Ganglion cyst.: The most common cause of the sudden appearance of a lump in the hand or wrist would be a ganglion cyst. These are benign fluid filled structures.If painful, they may warrant treatment. It should at least be looked at by a qualified doctor.
