Hematoma or IV infil: You either have a small hematoma at the site of IV insertion or had IV fluid or medication infiltrated into the soft tissue next to the vein where the IV was inserted, do warm compresses. Take a face-cloth, wet it, few seconds in microwave..warm compress every few hours.

You probably have on: of two things either a phlebitis which is a swelling in the vein or an infiltrated area. use moist heat several times a day. take advil or aleve (naproxen) etc. if persists after a weak or signs of infection occur seek help from a doctor.
