Not necessarily: Tonsils are rarely removed like they were decades ago. Five documented strep A infections/yr or sleep apnea are a common reasons for approving surgery. Since tonsils are part of the immune system that will shrink down by their teen years they are often left alone unless the kids individual needs require the invasive surgery. Removing tonsils does not stop strep or throat infections.
