May need exam: About half of these are strep A at that age and require antibiotics, but these usually have fever, the rest are viral and do not. A simple office quick test can sort this out. If you want to wait to see if the kid develops fever first it is okay. Sucking on throat lozenges or ice can give comfort. They can look the same on exam and review of symptoms.
