Slowly: Lung carcinoid tumors grow slower than other types of lung cancers.Typical carcinoids slow growing and rarely spread beyond lungs. Atypical carcinoids are less common, grow faster and spread elsewhere.Most typical carcinoids form in walls of bronchi called central carcinoids.Peripheral carcinoids develop in smaller airways.Cough, bloody sputum, wheezing, lung collapse are symptoms of central lesion.

Depends on size: Cancers grow by each of their cells dividing into 2. How often they divide depends on the cancer and is referred to as the doubling time (dt). The doubling time of typical lung carcinoids averages 400 days. So in one year they will almost double in size. In one year a 1mm carcinoid would grow to almost 2mm BUT a 10 cm carcinoid would grow to almost 20cm, so one grows 1mm & the other 100mm in 1 yr
