Doctor can examine: A cold caused by cold viruses is usually left alone, or over-the-counter medications (Tylenol or Motrin for fever, Robitussin DM for cough, etc...) can be used for a few days. The flu caused by influenza viruses is treated by antiviral medication in some cases, unless 3 days have passed since getting sick. A sore throat can be tested to see if it is strep throat. If strep, antibiotics are needed.
