My one year old daughter has had a temperature (axillary) of 100.8 5 days ago and today 101.5, slight runny nose and mild productive cough. is this ok?

Evaluation: I would have her doctor take a listen to her lungs as she may have a bacterial infection or another reason for the fever. Viral infections can be precursors to bacterial infections and a concerning sign is a fever persisting or increasing after so many days.

Fever: Temperatures over 100.5 often indicates some sort of infection, but it could be viral or bacterial. Viral infections are usually treated supportively with fluids and vitamins. Bacterial infections are going to give her additional symptoms like yellow or green nasal secretions. You have to be careful with these symptoms, because sometimes kids can have ear infections which are not always obvious.
