Amoxicillin 500 tid x 3 days. is clindamycin a reasonable second line for strep throat? unfortunately no one ordered an outside lab culture.

Probably not strep: No antibiotic, clindamycin or anything else, is more active against strep than amoxicicllin. It can take up to a week for strep throat symptoms to clear with antibiotics, so hang in there. However, the best bet is you don't have strep at all, but viral pharyngitis -- in which case no antibiotic will help, just has to run its course. Best to check with the doctor treating you.
