Usually 24-48 hours: if not, you might have another condition, like viral pharyngitis, or amoxicillin isn't working, just give it some more time, use salt water gargles, lots of fluids and rest, if all doesn't work check again with your doctor, good luck

At least 48 hrs.: Antibiotics are not like aspirin or Tylenol (acetaminophen). You cannot expect to get significant relief from symptoms of a bacterial infection (in this case strep pharyngitis) for at least 48 or perhaps even 72 hrs. after beginning the antibiotic. Of course, we are assuming that strep is VERIFIED & not just being given on the basis of a red throat white dots or not which often times turn out a viral infection.
