No risk, no worry: Valacyclovir (Valtrex) is one of the safest of all drugs. Side effects are extremely rare, and taking more drug than needed is not harmful at all. In the future, just take a single dose of 2 grams at first sign of a cold sore outbreak. There is no need and no better response to more prolonged treatment.
