Yes: These are both proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), so they work similarly. I have had patients switch from Pantoprazole to esomeprazole the next day, and then switch back to pantoprazole on occasion. It is a good idea to wean off PPIs as soon as you can. They are safe for short term use, however long term use may cause problems, so once you are feeling better ask your Dr about weaning off of it.
