Whether or not a: cyst can be confidently diagnosed on CT depends on the technical parameters of the scan(e.g. thin sections, IV contrast, multiplanar capability). Even then, it may be equivocal, and additional studies such as MRI or US may be necessary.True cysts of the retroperitoneum(not related to the kidneys) are uncommon, so this is a key distinction to make. You may need further imaging, talk to your doc.
