A member asked:

Why would a radiologist put on ct report, mulpile retroperitoneal and mesenteric lymph node noted. but did say they were enlarged. 8cm ovarian cyst?

It depends: Everyone has mesenteric and retroperitoneal lymph nodes. To "note" them on a ct scan does not necessarily mean they are enlarged. Even normal small lymph nodes are often visible on ct. In general, a radiologist will give specific measurements if there are abnormally enlarged lymph nodes or he/she will use the term "adenopathy." nevertheless, without seeing the images it is not entirely clear.

Worth noting: If the radiologist remarks on the lymph nodes, they be significant depending on the clinical situation; such as bowel disease or infection. An 8 cm ovarian cyst is abnormal and requires follow up ultrasound after two menstrual cycles.
