Yes: Footwear does have an effect on the way your feet contact the floor. New shoes take time to break in. Wear in small intervals to get used to them. See a podiatrist or foot doctor for more in depth custom orthotic which may help the ankle.

Possibably: My best advice is to make an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon and/or a podiatrist. The "road" to better walking is tricky and I would also suggest that you obtain a couple of opinions as how to proceed. As you found out just picking a new sneaker no matter how good it is takes more thought.

Explanation : Ankle sprain is often happens more then once through lifetime. The same ankle usually. That means proper footwear and ankle fixation should be used for intensive walking, running and other activity. Be well and. Good luck.
