There is always help: Maybe the physical therapist can't do anything else to help, and that's fine. Its time you seek another opinion, if your present doctor has run out of ideas. Pain is sign that something is still injured or not healed. You might seek the consult of a foot and ankle specialist for a second opinion.

SER: All sprained ankles are not created equal. A good rule of thumb is that it takes 6 weeks for tensile and compressive strength to return to healing tissues. Sometimes symptoms persist up to six months. Do you have an OCD lesion?

Severe Ankle Sprain: You may have a moderate to severe ankle sprain, which at times need some form of immobilization (e.g., cast or walking boot) with or without nonweightbearing protocol for 6 to 8 weeks-- and, sometimes even surgery (if it does not heal on its own). Please see a Foot and Ankle specialist ASAP.
