Ultrasound: Torsion is only diagnosed by an ultrasound which can demonstrate blood flow (or lack thereof) to a testicle or ovary. It can also be diagnosed during surgery. Cysts can increase your risk for torsion, but it's still not very common. Torsion is excruciatingly painful and is a surgical emergency. Please discuss your concern with your NP.
