How sure is the dx?: Reactivated mononucleosis is unusual. Most cases of mono are caused by EBV but CMV also can cause. While exceptions exist, usually mononucleosis confers lifelong immunity. Serologies are often used to check, however remain positive after acquiring the infection even many years. The monospot (EBV) is usually only positive for 3-5months p. infx. Other things can cause mono-like syndrome.
