Variable: The recovery time can vary from weeks to years. Chondromalacia implies long-term, often irreversible damage to the cartilage that covers the bone. However, symptoms can improve or even disappear. If your patella is not tracking properly, then I recommend a physical therapy program, patellar stabilizing brace and rest from activities that worsen symptoms. Also, update/improve athletic footwear.
