A member asked:

Why would you be referred to a gynaecologist for a ovarian cyst that's just 3cm?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Bad symptoms + fears: Unless there are sonographic findings strongly suggestive of a "possible early small ovarian malignancy" or the "3 cm ovarian cyst" is causing severe pains or other symptoms , the standard of Gyn care is not to raise unnecessary concerns about an ovarian cyst of that size . The probability that it is a benign functional cyst which will resolve spontaneously is high. Recheck in 3 to 4 months.
