A "5 cm ovarian cyst" may be related to endometriosis, which could explain why the cyst is causing pain during menses. Long standing endometriosis can precipitate fluid filled cystic ovarian structures, and abdominal implants of endometriosis cause pain. Call your gyn physician's office and ask about BCP's and a prescription, which will significantly reduce painful menses.
