Deep Purple!!: Since you are having a problem with one toe, it is more than likely that you have managed to traumatize the toe. Black is sometimes confused with a deep purple blue color indicative of bleeding. It seems reasonable to have the toe evaluated and perhaps imaged to better understand the true nature of your problem.
