Goll Darn-it.: Swelling, pain and bruising are certainly classic signs of sizable trauma to the toe. Immediate care should include elevating the foot, applying ice to the toe and staying off of it as much as possible. The question of a fracture can be answered soon enough, the main thing now is to minimize swelling and pain. Stabilizing the toe by splinting it to the adjacent one will help. An x-ray will find FX
