Depend: In a normal scaling and root planing procedure, collateral damage (gum tissue injury and bone bleeding) should be minmal and thus the soreness should not extend past few days. However, if you are suffering from anug or anug (acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis or periodontitis), periodontal tissue is severely injury and easily necrosed, causing post op pain and sensitivity. Antibiotic!

Yes: Yes tami, some times it takes 4-6 weeks for tissue to heal especially your pockets - gum disease is moderate to severe. Good luck.

Have it looked at: That's a bit long to still feel sore. There is no way to know without actually seeing you. Therefore, have the dentist who did the scaling and root planing see you to see how clean and healthy your gums are and if they are healing normally or if there is some problem with healing or plaque control.
