A DVT is rarely: symptomatic for two years however once there has been a DVT there will be disfigurement and disruption of the normal venous function in that area leading to intermittent swelling and pain. On appropriate anticoagulant therapy the clot itself should regress over several months and therefore not last two years but the recurrence rate is quite high (~10%/yr) without long term anticoagulation.
