I have unilateral uveitis and no other known health problems. what are the chances of blindness?

Small: If this treated successfully and not a first sign of more serious hidden problems the chances are quite small. You must be compliant with the meds and keep your appointments.

Multifactorial: Uveities has multiple causes, which usually gives us clues to the prognosis of vision. If you had a simple episode treated with steroid drops and resolved, without complication; and a normal autoimmune work up, the prognosis can be good.

Very low : Most unilateral uveitis are idiopathic - meaning we never find a cause. These are less likely to be recurrent. If you have an associated systemic disease or a risk factor (hla-b27 positive) then you need to be followed more closely. Blindness is caused by untreated glaucoma & cataracts. The treatments for these prevent blindness. Return to your doctor immediately with any pain or visual change.
