Don't be scared: Incidentally discovered thyroid masses are very common, more so in women. You can see an endocrinologist who will evaluate thyroid function, and depending on the size of the mass order a needle biopsy (a very simple procedure), usually ordered if it is over 1-1.5 cm in size. The overwhelming majority are benign.
