Good chance of it: It may be benign. Heavily calcified thyroid cancers tend not to be very aggressive and most are surgically cured. Do what you must, and don't let fear of the disease spoil your life. This would be a great time to focus on fitness and the things you find most meaningful -- consider that you're getting a second chance with life, and treasure it.

Hard to know.: The calcification is likely benign but the reported mass next to it, who knows. You are doing the right thing with biopsy. You may end up getting that side of the thyroid out if it's big, causing symptoms, a small cancer or indeterminate on biopsy. You may end up with the whole gland removed if it is a larger cancer or has an aggressive cytology.
