Monitoring: Is the way to go. In asymptomatic persons without underlying high risk factors intervention of a thoracic aortic aneurysm is recommended at 5.5 cm and 6 cm for ascending and descending aortic aneurysms respectively.

Monitor with CT: For thoracic aortic aneurysm every 6 months is usual. May have been same size for years! if it does enlarge to, 5.5 or 6 cm.Then surgery is a consideration. Ascending or descending? Risks: depends on your other personal risk factors. Smoking. Stop cholesterol manage blood pressure- control obesity-lose weight.
