Not for pain: Amoxicillin is an antibiotic. It is used for an infection. Do you have an infection? Just because you have a toothache, it does not mean you are infected. Either way the tooth needs to be evaluated and treated. Take an otc pain med for the pain and call your dentist for an appointment.

Amox. won't help: Amoxicillin is an antibiotic, not a pain killer. Unless you have an infection under your tooth (abscess) it will not help your problem. The exp date is not the issue. You should never take an antibiotic unless it is prescribed for your particular condition as it can: create resistant bacteria, cause upset stomach, and mask other problems. Take tylenol, (acetaminophen) motrin, or advil and see your dentist asap.

See dentist/MD: It is likely that a medication can still have potency beyond its expiration date depending on how it has been stored and the particular medication, but caution: it is unwise to self diagnose and medicate even if within it's expiry date. Let a dentist or md evaluate and guide you as to the problem and proper treatment.
