Maybe: It might work. You might need a high dose. Many dentists start with this. If it doesn't work after a few days you may have to change the antibiotic but the bottom line is to get the tooth fixed!!

Won't do the trick: The antibiotic will work on your symptoms... yes, the infection will go down a bit. But your tooth needs root canal therapy or an extraction! The antibiotics will not accomplish this, and you can't take them forever. See a dentist now and save yourself immeasurable discomfort in the near future.

Tooth pain.: Toothaches like all pain are a warning sign. Heed this warning. Taking any medication may have unintended consequences. Taking without supervision is fool hardy. Seek professional consultation is the best advice.

Foolish: First, not all toothaches are the result of an infection & therefore, it might not do anything to resolve your pain. Secondly, even if there is an infection present, an antibiotic will only tend to contain the infection unless the actual source of the infection is also treated & removed. So, you can take self prescribed antibiotics & wait & hope, or...you can see a dentist which u will need anyway

See a dentist soon: Tooth pain is caused when the nerve root of a tooth is irritated by infection, decay or trauma. OTC painkillers and antibiotics may provide some relief until you can get to your dentist. The good news is the prognosis is good with appropriate dental care. Remember, toothache pain will not go away on its own.
