Hernia advice: A strangulated hernia and incarcerated hernia are both different. A strangulated hernia can be a life-threatening emergency. An incarcerated hernia is not able to be reduced, and can become a strangulated hernia over time. A surgeon should evaluated any hernia at least once. If a hernia begins to become painful or becomes larger overtime, it may need to be repaired by surgery.
