Relationshipconflict: I understand your frustration. Have Heart to Heart Talk with your mother, tell her what you appreciate about her, then express your concerns about weight and risk of illnesses due to weight –Diabetes, Heart disease, High Blood Pressure. Suggest to her to see Doctor for examination with you, discuss your concerns; Diet of 1500 Cal/ day, exercise program, and Therapy.

Katz book: Disease proof by david katz, md is a good book for overall health. It contains lots of useful information about the way we eat and is written very clearly. Focus more on health and lab results than the number on the scale. Walking can be a great benefit also. Please see your doc first. Low carb and high protein works for some also. Consider giving mom this book.

Change is difficult: Doctors regularly stress healthy eating in management of obesity. However, stressing importance of improved health does not always result in change. Change is hard and the mere suggestion can produce resistance, especially if current behavior (eating sweets) provides a psychological benefit. Attend an appointment with your mother, express concerns, and seek to understand the function of sweets.
