Hypertrophy: Needs to be followed by a cardiologist to determine why the muscles are thick because treatment will vary according to the cause. Hypertrophy is not uncommon but can increase the chance of abnormal heart rhythms and sudden death in certain cases so it does need to be addressed

Contact Doctor: For detailed explanation in a language that you and your husband can understand. Thickening of the muscle of the heart or hypertrophy of the myocardium can lead to heart conditions. The best person to ask is the Doctor who performed and interpreted the tests.
