Needs radiaton: I am sorry about your mom's condition. She should get combination of radiation therapy and chemo-therapy. Radiation will hopefully able to stop the bleeding. Please discuss this with your mom's oncology team for further detail. Multiple specialities- medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, surgical onc etc- are required to take care your mom's condition.

Yes: Make sure mother is not on Aspirin or blood thinners like Coumadin (warfarin) or plavix. If she is contact the prescribing doctor to see if can be withheld temporarily till bleeding stops. And if she is anemic transfusions can help clotting. She needs to see radiation and chemotherapy doctors to begin treatment. Radiation can often times stop or slow bleeding. Urgent surgery may be needed.

Covered stent: We can also place a covered stent in the carotid if there is a concern over bleeding. This needs to be done in close conjunction with radiation and chemotherapy.
