My mom is considering to stop or lessen the dosage. i understand she needs to consult her doctor but as far as self-experimentation goes, can the body that is used to taking hydrochlorothiazide suffer any adverse side effects if user abruptly stops?

Lack of effects: By stopping a medicine it is expected to see the lack of its effect. HCTZ has been used as an anti hypertensive and has a diuretic effect and it should not cause abrupt side effects. The prescriber should be aware of the changes, so that they will have a chance to offer meaningful advice when needed.
