Causes of colitis: Inflammation (infection, ischemic, ibd) of large intestine = colitis. For ibd: ulcerative colitis primarily involves the lining of the large intestine whereas crohn's is transmural (full thickness involvement by) inflammation of any part of the GI tract (from mouth to anus). Don't delay your referral to the Gastroenterologist please.
